My name
is Don Smith, and I was raised in a large family in the city of Torrance, California.
The town I grew up in, is in the Los Angeles area of Southern California. My family
members consisted of my father, mother, grandmother, and my four siblings. I have an
older and younger brother, and two younger sisters; who still reside in different
locations in California. Both of my parents grew up in the "depression era" and
instilled in my siblings and I, ethics and the value of a dollar.
My father was retired military, who worked in law enforcement and real estate. My
mother worked as a homemaker and also worked in the retail industry after my siblings
and I were old enough; so she could also work full time. Like my father and older
brother, I too am an honorably discharged veteran, who proudly served my country, during
the Viet Nam era in the United States Army.
I first came to Arizona in 1984 and immediately fell in love with it's diversity. Our
state has some of the most beautiful landscapes, not to mention it's people as well. I
have met people from all over our country, who have made Arizona their home. Within the
last 23 years of being an Arizona resident, the last fifteen years I have proudly lived
in Prescott Valley, with my wife Cheryl of 14 years. Yes, I met my wife in Prescott.
In my younger years, I had worked as a machinist in the aerospace industry, as well
as in different facets of the field of construction. The last eight years I have worked
in the Behavioral Health field, working with various populations as a therapist, helping
people to work on and maintain their personal growth. It does not matter whether working
with juveniles or adults, my passion is to help people. I have a Bachelor of Psychology
degree from Northern Arizona University.
As for my personal life, I enjoy doing all types of things with my wife and my two
dogs' Izzy and Obleo. We like to camp, hike, and fish. Cheryl and I like to attend
different sports venues and events. We also like to travel. When not focused on the
entertainment aspect of life, Cheryl and I enjoy reading, working in the yard,
gardening, listening to music, watching TV, having friends and neighbors over for
dinner…just the basic things couples like to do. My wife and I are members of The
Heights Church in Prescott. We enjoy the warmth and sense of community with our fellow
parishioners.
In closing, I now work as a realtor at Kooiman Realty L.L.C. and will continue my lot
in life; to personally help people in regard to the personal and professional situations
of everyday life.
